Montreal, September 11, 2016 – The Jeunesses Musicales Canada Foundation and Peter Mendell are awarding cellist Joshua Morris with a $ 2,500 scholarship. Joshua was selected by the jury as the best candidate among all full-time string students enrolled in a classical music program at one of Québec’s universities or at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec who applied for the scholarship.

About Joshua Morris

A native of Vermont, Joshua Morris is currently pursuing a Masters in Cello Performance with Brian Manker at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Cello Performance from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio. In 2016, Joshua reached the semifinals of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition, and in 2015, he became a finalist of the McGill Classical Concerto Music Competition. Joshua regularly performs with the McGill Opera Orchestra and the McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble.

About the Peter Mendell Award

Established in 2005, this annual award bears the name of its founder, Peter Mendell. A partner in the law firm Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg, Peter Mendell is a well-known attorney, a devoted music enthusiast and amateur cellist himself. In keeping with the mission of the Jeunesses Musicales Canada Foundation, the Peter Mendell Award is intended to foster the development of musical excellence.
