Newswire | Toronto Mendelssohn Choir Treds New Ground with The Pilgrim’s Way

0

The Toronto Mendelssohn Choir charts a new path this season with The Pilgrim’s Way, which opens their 22/23 lineup of concerts. Led by Artistic Director and Conductor Jean-Sébastien Vallée, the TMChoir introduces the Toronto Mendelssohn Singers, a professional vocal ensemble of 24-voices which will appear on October 1st at Trinity St-Paul’s United Church for this moving program.

Centred on Joby Talbot’s Path of Miracles, this concert explores the narrative of displacement, identity, and individual life’s journeys. Talbot’s masterwork for a cappella voices is a musical pilgrimage describing a journey on the Camino de Santiago. Through its four contrasting movements based on the main posts of the Camino (Roncesvalles, Burgos, León, and Santiago) the music leads the listener on a unique reflective experience. Complemented by the work I Forgive by the TMChoir’s inaugural composer-in-residence Shireen Abu Khader, which tells the powerful story of Egyptian writer and activist Sarah Hejazi, this concert is a powerful celebration of the multiple journeys and identities that make up our communities.

The TMSingers will perform as a professional chamber ensemble this season, joining the TMChoir in performance and as individual soloists for upcoming educational outreach activities and season events. Audiences will hear the TMSingers featured as an ensemble in Festival of Carols (December 6th), and Little Match Girl Passion (March 18th).

This a capella performance of 24 powerful voices is not to be missed!
