Montreal, November 1, 2023 – The Sinfonia de l’Ouest will present its second concert of the 2023-2024 Season at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 9th, at St. Columba by-the-Lake Church, 11 Rodney Avenue in Pointe-Claire.
Our guest artist for this concert will be renowned soprano – and Pointe-Claire resident – Aline Kutan, who will join the orchestra for excerpts from Handel’s Messiah and arias by J. S. Bach and Vivaldi.
Winner of the 1995 Metropolitan Opera Auditions in New York, Aline Kutan has sung in opera houses and with opera companies around the world, including the Opéra de Paris, La Scala di Milano, the Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, the New York City Opera, the Glyndebourne Festival in Great Britain and the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto. She has performed frequently with l’Opéra de Montréal and l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, as well as with l’Orchestre Métropolitain, I Musici de Montréal and the Toronto Symphony. A member of the voice faculties of the Schulich School at McGill University and the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal, she has recorded an impressive number of acclaimed recordings for the ATMA Classique and Analekta labels.
The program will also include orchestral works by Vivaldi and Handel, and Samaras – a new work by Sinfonia violist Leo Purich that was performed last summer at the Summa cum Laude Festival in Vienna.
The concert will be conducted by the Sinfonia’s Artistic Director, Stewart Grant.
Since its inaugural concert in 2018, the Sinfonia has earned an enviable reputation for its fresh energy and its high standard of performance, performing for enthusiastic audiences at cultural centres across the West Island, at the Hudson Music Festival, at the Lake Brome Chamber Music Festival, at the Mozart à Bromont Festival, and in its own annual concert series in Pointe-Claire.
Tickets for the concert are available at the door and online at $30 for general admission, $25 for seniors and $15 for students. Children 12 years old and younger are free.
