Montreal, May 16th, 2022 – Musica Camerata Montreal presents a concert devoted to Grazyna Bacewicz (Poland) and Amy Beach (U.S.A.), two lady composers who played an important role at the beginning of the 20th century. The concert featuring the Great Ladies will take place at la Chapelle Historique du Bon-Pasteur, 100 Sherbrooke E on June 4th at 6PM and the program is based on two quintets for piano and strings.
Two composers to discover
One of the most important Polish composers, not well known in Canada, Grazyna Bacewicz (1909 – 1969) had a prolific career both as a violinist and a composer. Her vast production in the neoclassical style includes symphonies, concertos and chamber music.
The name of Amy Beach is better known to North American audiences. Her style is more romantic than classical and she was considered a pioneer in composition in the USA. She was associated with the Boston School of thought and she greatly admired Arthur Foote with whom she studied in her youth. The Quintet in F sharp minor op 67 written
in 1907 reveals lyricism, an intensity of expression, rich texture, skillful use of chromaticism and a certain sense of agitation due in part to her frequent modulations.
The musicians
Berta Rosenohl, piano; Luis Grinhauz and Van Armenian, violins; Sofia Gentile, viola and Bruno Tobon, cello are the performers who take much pride in presenting to the public less known works of great importance.
Program
