Montreal, October 11, 2022 – The Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) is delighted to announce that Maestro Rafael Payare, will conduct the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal (OSM) for the finals of Violin 2023 (May 3 and 4, 2023). This is the first time since the creation of the competition in 2001, that a Music Director of the OSM has conducted the orchestra for the CMIM.

Maestro Rafael Payare’s profound musicality, technical genius, and charismatic presence make him one of the most prominent conductors of his generation. The CMIM is grateful that Maestro Payare has accepted to share his passion and innate sense of music with the new generation of young violinists.

RAFAEL PAYARE

Born in 1980 and a graduate of the celebrated El Sistema in Venezuela, Payare began his formal conducting studies in 2004 with José Antonio Abreu. He has conducted many of the world’s great orchestras. The 22-23 season will mark his first season as Music Director of Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal and his fourth season as Music Director of San Diego Symphony Orchestra with whom his relationship has been recognised as one of the most dynamic in North America.

The Concours musical international de Montréal (CMIM) aims to discover and help the world’s most promising young singers, violinists, and pianists.  In total, 84 Winners, proud ambassadors of CMIM, from all over the world, have had a unique experience. After their participation in CMIM, many of them have been invited to perform in prestigious venues and are now pursuing successful international career. Since its first edition dedicated to Voice in 2002, 3,700 hopefuls have applied, and some 500 competitors have been welcomed to perform before enthusiastic audiences in Montreal.
