TORONTO (March 7, 2023) – Toronto Summer Music announced today today details of the 2023 Festival, which runs from July 6 to 29, 2023, entitled Metamorphosis.
“This year’s theme of Metamorphosis is particularly apt. It represents the re-emergence after a transformative time; an era of new ideas built on the foundation of classical masterworks,” said Jonathan Crow, Artistic Director. “ This is an exciting juncture in classical music where we have top musicians inspiring us with their musical mastery alongside a new generation breaking the mold and boasting dizzying technical heights.”
The 2023 TSM Festival showcases several outstanding artists of our time including pianists Angela Hewitt, Jon Kimura Parker and Charles Richard-Hamelin, acclaimed soprano Sondra Radvanovsky performing with pianist Anthony Manoli, and Grammy Award-winning soprano Ana María Martínez with her collaborator, Craig Terry. The Festival also features Amplified Opera’s The Butterfly Project reclaiming tunes from Puccini’s famous opera by interdisciplinary performer-creator Teiya Kasahara 笠原貞野, performances by Ukrainian pianist Illia Ovcharenko, winner of the 2022 Honens International Piano Competition, the celebrated Miró Quartet and New Orford String Quartet, the Toronto debut of the Isidore String Quartet, 2022 winners of the Banff International String Quartet Competition (BISQC), and clarinet and digital accordion duo Bridge & Wolak.
TSM delivers exciting contemporary works and world premieres, including such composers as Alexina Louie, Alice Hong, Kevin Lau, Jake Heggie, Kevin Puts, Dinuk Wijeratne, Caroline Shaw, and many more; as well as special projects such as a multi-disciplinary celebration of Chinese martial art and classical commissions featuring the Ironwood Quartet alongside Tai Chi Chuan players.
In addition to the 26 mainstage concerts, the 2023 Toronto Summer Music Festival features a variety of free concerts, children’s programming, and educational events; full details will be announced in June.
