New York, March 14, 2024 – Azrieli Music Prizes (AMP) is returning to NYC with three remarkable new works for soloists and orchestra. Come journey across eras, cultures and landscapes through the musical imaginations of our 2022 AMP Laureates: Iman Habibi, Aharon Harlap and Rita Ueda. To celebrate 10 years of excellence in music creation, the world-class Orchestra of St. Luke’s performs these three U.S. premieres, led by guest conductor Steven Mercurio, alongside internationally renowned soloists Sharon Azrieli, Sepideh Raissadat, Naomi Sato and Zhongxi Wu.

MEET THE ORCHESTRA

The world-class Orchestra of St. Luke’s (OSL) performs in a variety of formats throughout New York City, including its orchestral and chamber music series at Carnegie Hall, its contemporary concerts offered throughout the five boroughs, and collaborations with Paul Taylor Dance Company at Lincoln Center.

MEET THE CONDUCTOR

Maestro Steven Mercurio is an internationally acclaimed conductor and composer whose musical versatility encompasses the symphonic and operatic worlds. Currently the Music Director of the Czech National Symphony Orchestra, he has previously led the London Philharmonic, Prague Philharmonia and Sydney Symphony Orchestra, among others.

MEET THE HOST

Elliott Forrest is a Peabody Award winning broadcaster and producer. He has been on the radio in New York City for 35 years. Currently, you can hear him on New York’s Classical Music Radio Station 105.9FM – WQXR, WQXR.org and on WNYC. He is also the host and producer of the national radio concerts of The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

About the Azrieli Music Prizes

Established in 2014, the biennial the Azrieli Music Prizes (AMP) represent the Azrieli Foundation’s commitment to discovering, elevating and amplifying the voices of artists who demonstrate excellence while embodying the belief that music is a vital human endeavour that allows humankind to express its creativity, expands our worldviews and fosters positive cultural exchanges. Open to the international music community, AMP accepts proposals for works from individuals of all ages, genders, nationalities, backgrounds and faiths. These proposals are submitted to our expert juries for review through a biennial open call.

AMP’s four prize packages – valued at $200,000 CAD each – make it the top competition for music composition in Canada and one of the most substantial in the world.

Past prize winners include Canadian composers Keiko Devaux (2020), Kelly-Marie Murphy (2018) and Brian Current (2016); Israeli American composers Yotam Haber (2020) and Avner Dorman (2018); Australian Israeli composer Yitzhak Yedid (2020); and Polish American composer Wlad Marhulets (2016).
