Montreal, November 27, 2023 – The Auguste-Descarries Piano Competition took place Sunday, November 26 at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal concert hall.
The jury unanimously decided to award the 1st place prize to Antoine Rivard-Landry. The prize includes a $5,000 bursary and a residency with Orford Music. At 27 years old, laureate Rivard-Landry was trained by Robert McDonald at Julliard, as well as by Jean Saulnier at the Université de Montréal and by Richard Raymond at the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal.
The two runners up presented equally moving performances and displayed tremendous virtuosity.
Emmanuel Laforest, 22, won the 2nd place prize, valued at $3,000
and Emmanuel Roberts Dugal, 18, won the 3rd place prize, valued at $1,500.
Presided over by Réjean Coallier, the jury included Charles Richard-Hamelin, Janelle Fung and Wonny Song.
