Montreal, May 29, 2025 — It is with great pride that Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20 announces that young Quebec soprano Lucie St-Martin, 2024 and 2025 laureate of the Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques program, has won top honors at the XXVIIh edition of the Concorso Internazionale per Cantanti Lirici Città di Alcamo, held in Alcamo, in the province of Trapani, Italy, from May 8 to 11.
Selected as a Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques following the national audition held last April, the young artist was invited to participate directly in the semifinals of this prestigious international competition. Thanks to financial support from the Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques program, she was able to proudly represent Canada, winning two major awards.
The jury, chaired by Italian soprano Paoletta Marrocu, Italian tenor Stefano La Colla, and English mezzo-soprano Rachel O’Brien, awarded Lucie St-Martin the First Prize, worth €3,000, sponsored by CONAD.
A jury of critics, coordinated by Florinda Bartolucci, musicologist, professor of music history, and director of the Aosta Conservatory of Music in Italy, and joined by Italian pianist Lucia Cassarà and Italian journalist Giuseppe Maniscalchi, also recognized Lucie St-Martin with the “Don Rizzo” Special Critics’ Prize, sponsored by the Crédit Coopératif d’Aosta Sicilia Occidentale, worth €1,000.
“A complete artist with refined technique, theatrical talent, precise phrasing, and great tonal variety. Her presence is charismatic and magnetic! We wish her a long and well-deserved career,” declared the competition organizers.
She was also invited to take part in three concerts in 2025 or 2026 offered respectively by the Associazione Amici della Musica di Alcamo, the Conservatorio Statale di Musica “Vincenzo Bellini” di Caltanissetta and the Associazione Mozart di Roma.
These prizes were presented to him on the occasion of the Gala Concert held at the Teatro Cielo d’Alcamo on May 11, during which a tribute was also paid to our founding director, the late Alain Nonat, initiator of this partnership with the Associazione Amici Della Musica di Alcamo 21 years ago, and member of the jury of their international competition on several occasions.
“We are extremely proud of our Young Opera Ambassadors who, every year for more than three decades, through their talent, passion, and commitment, have brilliantly represented our organization and its Young Opera Ambassadors program internationally. The success of our winner Lucie St-Martin in this prestigious competition testifies not only to the artistic excellence of our young talents, but also to the vitality of Canada’s emerging operatic talent. This international recognition opens important doors to their careers and confirms our mission: to reveal and promote the great voices of tomorrow,” said Jimmy Miron, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Théâtre Lyrichorégra 20.
The young operatic soprano, whom you may have discovered as a winner of the J.A.L. last September at the China–Canada Lyric Encounter, presented as part of the Moon Festival at the Montreal Botanical Garden, and last October at the 30th Gala of the Young Lyric Ambassadors, will be with us again for the 31st edition of the Gala next fall.
“A huge thank you to the JAL who supported my participation in the International Competition for Lyric Singers in Alcamo, Sicily. In addition to it being a rich experience on a human and musical level, I am proud to have won first prize in the competition, the Critics’ Award, and to have secured concert opportunities for next year! I can’t wait to return to sing in this magnificent region and am grateful to the JAL for believing in me. Arrivederci Sicilia!” said winner Lucie St-Martin.
