About

The Manitoba Chamber Orchestra, ” Canada’s tiny, perfect chamber orchestra” according to the Toronto Star, has toured extensively, commissioned numerous premieres, embraces a diverse repertoire, and regularly collaborates with the world’s leading soloists, from James Ehnes to Measha Brueggergosman. Founded in 1972, the MCO presents at least nine concerts a year in Winnipeg, most of which feature guest soloists and all of which present accessible and eclectic repertoire ranging from mega-hits in the traditional classical repertoire to new contemporary creations. In 2019, the MCO was named classical artist/ensemble of the year at the Western Canadian Music awards. They have been nominated for the same award in 2020. That same year, the MCO launched MCO at Home – an online music hub featuring new and classic MCO performances – to better connect with its audience during the COVID-19 pandemic. A biweekly radio program was also launched for this purpose in collaboration with Classic 107. Violinist Aisslinn Nosky is the MCO’s current guest artist-in-residence, in which capacity vocalist Measha Brueggergosman precedes her. Kevin Lau is the MCO’s composer-in-residence.

Harpsichordist and organist Luc Beauséjour is never short of ideas when it comes to offering programs of refinement and authenticity, both for his recitals and for the variable-geometry concerts of Clavecin en concert, the company he founded in 1994 and has been directing ever since. Of his playing, Le Devoir wrote: “The natural breathing of his harpsichord, the remarkable attention to proportion and singing make him a rare artist.” Mr. Beauséjour has a very active career, performing in recital in both the Americas and Europe. Over the years, he has received nine Prix Opus from the Conseil québécois de la musique, some of which were for productions by his company Clavecin en concert, and he has also won two Félix trophies at the ADISQ gala. First prize winner of the Erwin Bodky International Harpsichord Competition held in Boston in 1985, he has won prizes and honors at several other international competitions. For several years, he has also been active as a teacher in Montreal.

Luc Beauséjour has made nearly 40 recordings. For Naxos, he has recorded the Pièces de clavecin d’Antoine Forqueray, in two volumes, Le Parnasse musical de Caspar Ferdinand Fischer, in two volumes, and the two books of the Well-Tempered Clavier by Bach, in two double volumes. Analekta’s recordings include two discs of Scarlatti Sonatas, a disc of French music for two harpsichords with Hervé Niquet, a disc of Baroque piano moments, Boismortier’s Sonatas for Harpsichord and Flute Opus 91 with Claire Guimond, Bach’s Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord with James Ehnes, Mondonville’s Pièces de clavecin avec voix ou violon, as well as Bach’s organ works played on the pedal harpsichord. As conductor of Clavecin en concert, also for Analekta, he is featured in Couperin’s Concerts royaux and with Julie Boulianne in two collections of arias, one by Handel and Porpora, the other by Handel and Vivaldi. Most recently, in February 2022, his most recent album of Mozart’s Famous Sonatas for fortepiano was released by Analekta.
