Montreal, August 5, 2025 — On Sunday afternoon, during the grand final concert at Maison Symphonique, the Orchestre de la francophonie (OF) announced the nomination of Julien Proulx as its new Artistic Director and winner of its conductor competition. This concert marked the conclusion of a series of three performances held as part of the competition. Jean-Philippe Tremblay led the OF for one last time as its official Artistic Director. In recognition of his exceptional commitment, a scholarship was created in his name. In a symbolic gesture, Tremblay passed the baton to Julien Proulx, who had the honour of conducting the opening piece of this final concert, Jacques Hétu’s Symphony No. 3, for the very first time.

A New Artistic Director and a Vision to Uphold
The three concerts gave Emmanuelle Lambert-Lemoine, Léa Moisan-Perrier, and Julien Proulx the opportunity to each showcase their artistic expertise and ability to inspire the entire OF ensemble, composed of young professional musicians who are graduates of leading music institutions. The orchestra’s new artistic leadership has been entrusted to Julien Proulx, who was selected at the end of the competition for a three-year term.
True to its mission of learning, innovating, and sharing, the Orchestre de la francophonie made its artistic director’s competition a participatory experience: the selection process, involving both the musicians of the orchestra and a panel of expert jurors, was enhanced by a public vote.

A Scholarship in Honour of Jean-Philippe Tremblay
In recognition of his unwavering dedication and the founding vision behind a project that has thrived for 25 years, the Orchestre de la francophonie is proud to announce the creation of the Jean-Philippe Tremblay Scholarship. Each year, this scholarship will offer aspiring conductors the opportunity to train with the Orchestra, thus continuing the mission of transmission so dear to Jean-Philippe. With passion and dedication, he has guided more than 1,200 musicians supporting not only their careers, but also their civic engagement.
“The future of classical music depends on boldness and openness. This participatory process reflects the spirit of innovation and sharing that has driven the OF since its founding. The 2025 season is not only a musical highlight, but also a celebration of transmission and renewal,” says Jean-Philippe Tremblay, OF’s Founding and Emeritus Music Director.
