FINAL ROUND
October 2024 – The Canadian International Organ Festival reveals the four finalists for the 2024 competition. Alma Bettencourt, Mélodie Michel, Johaness Skoog, and Henry Webb will advance to the final round! These incredible young musicians from around the world take to the stage at Maison symphonique de Montréal on Friday, October 25, for the final round.
There are two sessions, one at 3:30 and one at 7 p.m. The order of performers is:
15h30 – Henry Webb
16h30 – Mélodie Michel
19h – Johannes Skoog
20h – Alma Bettencourt
This is the culmination of the competition, an opportunity to hear the world’s best young organists pull out all the stops! Following Friday’s final round, the jury will announce the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizewinners, along with the recipient of the prestigious Gaston-Litaize prize. Each finalist will present a 50-minute program, featuring repertoire of their choice, performed on the majestic “king of instruments”—the organ.
GALA CONCERT
The excitement continues with the Gala Concert, presented in partnership with Concerts Lachine, featuring performances by the top three prize winners on Sunday, October 27, at 7 p.m., at Saints-Anges de Lachine Church. During the gala concert, the CIOC will also announce the winners of the Richard Bradshaw Audience Prize, the Noël-Spinelli Award for Best Program, and the Raymond-Daveluy Award for Best Interpretation of a Canadian Piece. After the free concert, guests are invited to an exclusive ticketed reception, offering the opportunity to meet the jury and competitors while supporting the CIOC’s mission. Join in celebrating these outstanding young performers and the timeless beauty of the pipe organ!
OTHER FEATURED EVENTS
Before the final round, there are several other fantastic concerts planned. Listen to a combination of old favourites, and exciting new compositions on October 23, performed by Bernard Foccroulle, enjoy the unusual sonic combination of piano and organ with Duo Majoya on October 24, immerse yourself in Messiaen’s sound world interpreted by Hans-Ola Ericsson on October 26, or savour a program featuring early music presented by Kimberly Marshall on October 27. Join us for the grand finale of the Canadian International Organ Festival, the ambassador of the king of instruments!
Organist Johannes Skoog is the winner of the Gérard-Coulombe Bach prize (best interpretation of the works by Bach played at Immaculée-Conception church) awarded last Friday.
