June 17, 2025 – OTTAWA – Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra is thrilled to present a vibrant line-up of summer concerts for 2025. This year’s offerings include Murdoch Mysteries in Concert—a live-to-picture performance of the popular CBC television series—and Symphonic Waves, a celebration of Beethoven featuring rising Canadian star Jaeden Izik-Dzurko.

MURDOCH MYSTERIES IN CONCERT

On July 10 and 11, the beloved detective drama Murdoch Mysteries comes to life at Southam Hall in a one-of-a-kind multimedia experience. Hosted by series star Yannick Bisson, Murdoch Mysteries in Concert fuses gripping television drama with live orchestral performance.

Audience members will first hear from award-winning composer Rob Carli—who has scored the series for 11 seasons—as he offers behind-the-scenes insight into the creative process of composing music for television. The evening continues with a full screening of “Murder in F Major,” an episode from Season 16, accompanied by Carli’s dynamic score performed live by the NAC Orchestra, led by guest conductor Lucas Waldin.

The concept of bringing the early-20th-century Toronto-set series to the concert hall originated with Christina Jennings, Chair and CEO of Shaftesbury, the show’s longtime production company. Production is underway on the show’s 19th season, including an episode filmed on location in Ottawa.

“It was an opportunity to bring Murdoch audiences a fresh and unique experience,” Carli says. “During one of my very first experiences watching the show in concert, I was struck by all the collective laughs. It was nice to hear everyone laughing in real time—and even helping me laugh at things I didn’t think were funny the first time around.”

SYMPHONIC WAVES: BEETHOVEN FOR EVERYONE

The NAC Orchestra’s summer season continues with Symphonic Waves, a Beethoven-focused program led by Marie Jacquot, Principal Conductor of the Royal Danish Theatre. British Columbia-born pianist Jaeden Izik-Dzurko, fresh off a tour of Japan with the NAC Orchestra, returns to Southam Hall to perform Beethoven’s luminous Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major.

Izik-Dzurko is one of Canada’s most exciting young talents. Last year, he won the Leeds International Piano Competition and became the first Canadian Grand Prize Laureate at an instrumental edition of the Concours musical international de Montréal. He debuted with the NAC Orchestra during the 2024-2025 season and is a featured soloist in the 2025-2026 season.

The program also features Beethoven’s effervescent Eighth Symphony and Endymion, a tone poem inspired by Greek mythology by the late Canadian composer Jean Coulthard.

“This concert is designed from the ground up to be a gateway experience,” says Daphne Burt, Senior Manager of Artistic Planning for the NAC Orchestra. “With a very accessible price point, a welcoming atmosphere, and repertoire that’s deeply rewarding without being demanding, it stands apart as a summer event anyone can enjoy.”

Tickets for both must-see summer shows are available now and can be purchased by phone, at nac-cna.ca, or in person at the NAC Box Office.
