Montreal, Wednesday, January 19, 2022 – A new chapter is beginning in Montreal. General and Artistic Director of Bourgie Hall since its opening in September 2011, Isolde Lagacé will take her leave from the directorship of this concert hall, among the most prestigious and beloved in the country. In December 2022, she will step down from her duties after more than a decade of offering a rich, meticulously prepared, top-level programming to music lovers in Montreal, one both interspersed with musical discoveries and which can boast having welcomed within its walls some of the greatest names in classical music.
For many years, Isolde Lagacé has played a leading role in the musical life of this country. An accomplished musician, devotee of culture and the arts, and experienced administrator, since assuming her position as Director of the Fondation Arte Musica in January 2008, she has ensured the fulfillment of Bourgie Hall’s mission with unfailing enthusiasm. She leaves Bourgie Hall in a situation that is enviable in every respect. Thanks to her flair and sensibility, Bourgie Hall has become an epicentre for music in Quebec that fosters the development of numerous artists and musical ensembles, who have found it to be a venue perfectly suited to their needs and artistic visions.
Isolde Lagacé could confirm: “I leave for retirement with a feeling of having accomplished my duty, my heart and spirit more than overjoyed to note the wonderful place that Bourgie Hall occupies today in the lives of music lovers in Quebec and musicians from here and elsewhere. As our twelfth season approaches, I fervently hope that the hall will continue to be a beacon in our cultural landscape. The coming difficulties for concert music will be great, but I remain convinced that Bourgie Hall will continue to play an indispensable role.”
Pierre Bourgie, president of the Board of Trustees, affirmed: “This musical project at the Museum would not have become what it is today without the exceptional work of Isolde, who, through her charisma, expansive knowledge of the musical milieu, and inspiring leadership, has been able to endow Montreal with a first-class concert hall which is today the pride of Montrealers and Quebecers. We owe her much, and I wish to thank her from the bottom of my heart.”
The Director of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Stéphane Aquin, paid tribute to this institution’s loyal partner: “An experienced administrator, Isolde has led with a masterful hand the varied musical projects of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The multitude of partnerships that she has built over the years has greatly contributed to the standing of our institution.”
The members of the Board of Trustees, the personnel of Bourgie Hall as well as the wider community of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts collectively wish Ms. Lagacé a wonderful retirement.
Starting next week, Bourgie Hall will launch a call for applications to fill the position of Director.
