MONTREAL
VIVA PALESTRINA
April 26 at 8 p.m. – Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel
The Renaissance Nouvel ensemble vocal (NEV), under the direction of Marc-Olivier Lacroix, will celebrate Palestrina’s 500th birthday with the Missa Assumpta est Maria, which honours the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The program will be rounded out with works by other Renaissance composers, including Gesualdo and da Victoria.
PALESTRINA 500 – SICUT LILIUM INTER SPINAS – A LILY IN THE BRAMBLES
May 24 at 7:30 p.m. – Très-Saint-Nom-de-Jésus Church
This year, the whole world celebrates the birthday of the Prince of Music, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. A monumental figure of Renaissance polyphony, his music was born amid the splendours of the Church of Rome, as Michelangelo had just completed The Last Judgment and designed St. Peter’s Dome. Palestrina’s compositional style remains the unrivalled model of Renaissance counterpoint and a staple of choral programs devoted to sacred music, among other styles. In this concert, Ensemble Vox joins the worldwide celebration of Palestrina.
RESURRECTION – MAHLER SYMPHONY NO. 2
May 24, 7:30 p.m. – Maison symphonique
The Orchestre philharmonique et chœur des mélomanes (OPCM), under the direction of young conductor Francis Choinière, will present Mahler’s grandiose Symphony No. 2. Over 200 singers and musicians will take the stage with soprano Sarah Dufresne, recently winning the role of Ophelia at the Montréal Opera, and mezzo-soprano Allyson McHardy.
HYMNE À LA JOIE
May 31, 7:30 p.m. – Maison symphonique
The Chœur St-Laurent will join the Orchestre classique de Montréal for its final concert of the season. The program will include Mememgwenyig by Anishinaabe composer Barbara Assiginaak, Cantate pour une joie by Pierre Mercure and, lastly, Beethoven’s famous Symphony No. 9. Soloists Elizabeth Polese (soprano), Florence Bourget (mezzo-soprano), Eric Laporte (tenor) and David John Pike (bass) will add their voices to the choir.
QUEBEC CITY
CENT VOIX POUR LE QUÉBEC
May 31, 7:30 p.m. – Palais Montcalm
The Chœur de l’Orchestre symphonique de Québec and Chœur Les Rhapsodes, under the baton of David Rompré, will meld their voices to present a true musical and poetic journey through the heart of Quebec, paying tribute to the greats of Quebec song and poetry, such as Raymond Lévesque, Félix Leclerc and Claude Gauthier.
OTTAWA-GATINEAU
LA NATURE DE L’EAU
May 3, 7:30 and May 4, 3:30 p.m. – Saint François de Sales Church
Chœur classique de l’Outaouais, directed by Tiphaine Legrand, will present La nature de l’eau, a concert that will take audiences to a universe where water reveals all its symbolic and sonorous richness. This program includes the world premiere of Sister Water by Glenn McClure and features Canadian composers Marie-Claire Saindon and Andrew Staniland.

GLORIA!
May 10, 7:30 p.m. – St. Patrick’s Basilica
The final concert of the Ottawa Bach Choir’s season, directed by Lisette Canton, will showcase baroque masterpieces such as Vivaldi’s Gloria, Handel’s Laudate pueri and Dixit Dominus à 8 by Chiara Margherita Cozzolani, reflecting the brio and passion of Italian baroque music. Ensemble Caprice and soloists will join the choir for the occasion.

May 4, 3 p.m. – Meridian Arts Centre
Under the baton of Zimfira Poloz, the Toronto Children’s Chorus will present a concert weaving together sweet melodies and movements from works of diverse musical traditions—to express the power of connection and give life to music. The program includes a piece featuring sign language, as well as works by Cristian Grases, Jude Roldan and Tracy Wong.

REQUIEM DE DURUFLÉ
May 9, 7:30 p.m. – Yorkminster Park Baptist Church
Under the direction of Jean-Sébastien Vallée, the Toronto Mendelssohn Choir will conclude its 130th season with Duruflé’s famed Requiem. The program will be rounded out with excerpts of his most recent recording, Remember: 130 Years of Canadian Choral Music, as well as works by its composer in residence, Aaron Manswell.
WESTERN CANADA
WHERE YOU GO
May 2, 7:30 p.m. – Annex, Vancouver
Where you go will present two works: Klangenfort, a new work inspired by Savannah Walling’s 1976 text and choreography, and where you go, an original collaboration with Olivia C. Davies, filmed in 2022. Musica intima will sing a musical score by David Lang, Luca Marenzio, Rebecca Dale and Jóhann Jóhannsson. Dancers Kelly McInnes and Brandon Schwin will join the vocal ensemble on stage.
FRESH INK
May 9, 7:30 p.m. – Pacific Spirit United Church, Vancouver
This concert by the Vancouver Chamber Choir, with musical and artistic direction by Kari Turunen, will present works by Matthew Whittall, Laura Hawley, Tawnie Olson and Alex Freeman. Each piece in Fresh Ink is commissioned, created or premiered in Canada by the choir and its conductor and will be available on a soon-to-be recorded album.
