The 2024 Banff International String Quartet Festival (BISQFest) presents classical music’s finest to its audience in a completely immersive manner.

The festival has a host of professional string quartets and individual artists ready to deliver world-class music to attendees. Cheng2 Duo kickstarts the festival on Aug. 30 with music by Sibelius, Grieg, Bruch, and Wijeratne. Later that evening the Banff Festival Orchestra will play a concert featuring the Ehnes Quartet, and music by Bach, Elgar, and Mozart. A not-to-be-missed concert will head Day 2, as the Kronos Quartet presents works from the project 50 for the Future. The project is a newly created catalogue of works for string quartet from composers around the globe. The concert will feature five of these pieces. Woodwinds then dabble into the world of strings as the Israeli Chamber Project presents Mozart’s Kegelstatt Trio for clarinet, viola, and piano.

Banff World Premiere

A world première ends the second festival day, as the Isidore Quartet is joined by pianist and composer Andy Milne for the performance of his new work, Chimeric Reveries. The concert will also include Ruth Crawford Seeger’s String Quartet and Tchaikovsky’s Souvenir de Florence for strings. The Isidore Quartet are previous Banff competition laureates, and they are thrilled to be join by Milne (a two-time Juno winner) for this multi-genre and versatile piece. The final concert continues the theme of extravagance and excellence with the Viano Quartet performing works by Beethoven, Barber, and Schubert. All of the music at the BISQFest is of an unbelievable calibre, ensuring an unforgettable experience for anyone in attendance.
