This year’s edition of La Scena Musicale’s Singing Valentines will feature 30 singers for its serenades along with its second Singing Valentines Concert streaming on-demand starting Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. “It’s a veritable Festival of Love,” said Wah Keung Chan, La Scena Musicale’s founder and creator of the Singing Valentines.

Serenades

For the 12th consecutive year, people across Canada, as well as around the world will be able to order our popular Singing Valentines Serenades. This year, 30 professionally trained singers offer their time for Valentine’s Day, from Feb. 11 to 14, to help raise funds for La Scena Musicale and to give a special gift through song and music. Again this year, 50% of the donations will be shared with our singers. For a $30-$150 donation, you can provide your loved one with the romantic experience of a lifetime. Personalized serenades are offered by phone, FaceTime, Zoom and recorded video to ensure good audio quality.

The roster includes many emerging young singers, including sopranos Ariane Cossette, Geneviève Dompierre, Julia Eliashov, Chantal Freeman, Marion Germain, Ania Hejnar, Queen Hezumuryango, Geneviève Labrèche, Klara Martel-Laroche, Irina Medvedeva, Agnès Ménard, Kripa Nageshwar, Raphaëlle Paquette, Valérie Poisson, Samira Tou, Laurie Tremblay; mezzo-sopranos Marie-Andrée Mathieu, Hélène Picard; tenors Wah Keung Chan, Jérémie Domenico, Mike Fan, Emmanuel Hasler, Don Adriano, Joseph Terterian; bass/baritones Jérémie Brocard, Cairan Ryan, Geoffrey Schellenberg; crooner Daniel Bolduc; pianist / singer Marybelle Frappier.

Concert

Since the start of the pandemic, La Scena Musicale has organized several streaming concerts on the themes of Christmas, Corona Serenades, Nurses, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Valentine’s Day. This year, we will celebrate both Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day,” said Chan. “Nobody else is doing it, and we are there to fill the need, especially in these uncertain times.”

The concert will feature renowned cellist Stéphane Tétreault, sopranos Raphaëlle Paquette, Valérie Poisson and Kripa Nageshwar; mezzo-sopranos Marion Germain and Marie-Andrée Mathieu; tenors Nils Brown and Don Adriano; and baritone Simon Chaussé.

“Artistic directors Don Adriano and Vivianne Jeanson have done a wonderful job of assembling the concert roster and the theme,” said Chan, “continuing the work they did in last year’s Mother’s Day Concert.”

The theme for this year’s Singing Valentines Concert is Love: Themes and Variations. At La Scena Musicale we believe that love is a complex and multi-layered emotion, and we would like to explore that with you through music, songs and arias. Therefore, we have conceived a concert to celebrate love in all its facets. Each piece represents a distinctive aspect of love: from the seduction of Carmen’s aria “L’amour est un oiseau rebelle” to the youthful ardent love expressed by Cherubino in his aria ‘’Non so più cosa son’’.

The première of the concert will be presented on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. through the concert platform OnJam.tv and will remain available for 60 days after that.
