For the past two years, La Scena Musicale (LSM) has been working to help artists and the cultural community during the pandemic. While LSM improves the quality of its events each time, the Mother’s Day Celebration is shaping up to be a real highlight.
The team was more motivated than ever to make sure that everything was perfect for the big day, held on Mother’s Day weekend with a special concert opening on Friday, May 6, 2022, and serenades on May 7 and 8, 2022.
One of the most beautiful novelties of this edition is the partnership between LSM and Musitechnic. Indeed, two students accompanied by their teacher will be in charge of all the technical parts of the audio for the Mother’s Day Concert. “It’s really exciting because now we don’t only give opportunities to upcoming artists, but also to students who want to work in the music industry in other specialities, like sound recording, production, etc. It brings a nice dynamic, it’s such a nice exchange,” says Adrian Rodriguez, co-ordinator and director of the concert.
Another novelty is that LSM is going even further in the diversity of its singers and repertoire. Audiences will be able to hear artists with whom LSM has never collaborated before. “The event promises to be even more diverse than previous ones, with artists from all walks of life and an extremely varied program including a flamenco jazz number, musical theatre numbers, folk-pop, while of course keeping the classical and opera arias,” says Rodriguez.
The singers featured in the Mother’s Day concert are Matthew Azrieli, Nadine Benjamin, Marie-Claire Drolet, Mishael Eusebio, Ania Hejnar, Monika Mazanka, Jean-Philippe McClish, Geoffroy Salvas, Samira Tou, cellist Olga Mizyuk, the band Azara featuring Gabriel Evangelista, and pianists Giancarlo Scalia and Shirley Wu. For the serenades, over 30 singers and musicians are once again collaborating with LSM to provide the perfect Mother’s Day gift of song across the country and beyond. The Canadian soprano, Ariane Cossette, comments: “This is such an original project that creates a direct contact between artists and audience. It’s even more fun to sing knowing that you are becoming the intermediary between two people to transmit love through beautiful melodies.”
