Way Out East
Harry Manx, guitar, sitar, Mohan Veena
Dog My Cat Records, September 2023

With his new album “Way Out East”, released on Sept. 9, Harry Manx continues his musical project of exploring cross-cultural encounters between East and West, notably through fusions between traditional American blues sounds, and melodies (ragas) from the Indian classical music repertoire.

In this new album, produced by his own independent label, Dog My Cat Records, Manx presents a selection of his best compositions of the last 20 years, accompanied by Samidha Joglekar (vocals), Ravi Nimpali (tablas) and Clayton Doley (keyboard). The album takes listeners on a cross-cultural meditative journey that is rife with originality.

Above all, this 21-track recording underlines the universal scope of this virtuoso multi-instrumentalist’s music. He is renowned for his mastery of various instruments: guitar, sitar, banjo, harmonica and, above all, the Mohan Veena. A 20-string sitar-guitar, Manx mastered the instrument under the tutelage of Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, who created it. George Harrison, of the Beatles, devoted his famous stay in India to learning the Mohan Veena.

This album makes listeners want to follow Harry Manx on his musical adventures. He will be touring Quebec this autumn (October to December).
