This compilation includes nine tracks by the three world music finalists of the annual Syli d’Or competition, recorded during the gala evening at La Tulipe on April 27, 2023.
One of the best salsa band in Quebec, La Tribu (Syli d’Or winner) presents beautiful pieces that remain true to the salsa tradition of 1970s New York, where this music took root. Thanks to the talents of its quartet of singer-actors, this colourful band stands out for its original blend of humour and fiery Latin-American rhythms.
Abondance (Syli d’Argent winner) delights us with its combination of zouk and gwoka music from Martinique and Guadeloupe, featuring house, pop, dance, electro and funk rhythms. This is the hallmark of this Caribbean-Montreal-based group, which draws inspiration from instrumental and electronic rhythms, and features percussion, djembe and synthesizer.
The Syli de Bronze winner, Karagira Owen Berel, better known as Lil K HPB, presents the best of his hip-hop/Afrobeat compositions. This young artist from the East African diaspora has matured since his first album (2020) and the start of his solo career in Montreal. A promising natural talent.
