Scored for chorus and five soloists performing in English, Cantonese, Ukrainian, and Hungarian, Sweat brings the audience into the heart of a contemporary sweatshop. Improvisation and percussive spoken text contrast the world of the factory floor with the dreams of the women who labour there. Plunging headfirst into the ethical conundrums of the garment trade, the work offers a window into the lives of the workers who clothe us. The Bicycle Opera Project stages Juliet Palmer and Anna Chatterton’s a capella masterpiece.
