The St. Lawrence Choir, Vanier College Choir and its artistic director, Philippe Bourque, offer an original journey into the unique world of fairy tales, fantasy and myth, sublimated in symphonic music.
This concert, entitled “Légendes”, will include the Canadian premiere of little-known works by Sibelius (Snöfrid Op.29 – based on old Scandinavian stories) and Rimsky-Korsakov (Switezianka Op.44 – The Mermaid of the Lake, based on Russian folklore), as well as Mendelssohn’s Die erste Walpurgisnacht Op.60 (The First Walpurgis Night, based on pagan rituals). Grandiose in the deployment of artists, musicians and choristers, and rich in both striking and delicate sounds, this concert will bring together four nationally and internationally renowned soloists, an orchestra of more than 50 musicians and a choir of more than 110 singers, all at the prestigious Maison symphonique, in the heart of the vibrant Quartier des spectacles.
