This concert revolves around the piece Rasas (Ritual and Sophisticated Areas of Sound) by Sandeep Bhagwati, in which the performers follow a musical path guided by human emotions. In the Indian artistic tradition, rasas are a system for classifying emotions that constitute the basic components of all artistic expression. In this piece, Sandeep Bhagwati has arranged 64 sections in a matrix that can be combined. Before each performance, the performers choose a combination, their unique arrangement and a different interpretation of the piece. Other emotions will emerge from the two choral works. György Ligeti’s Lux aeterna, a micropolyphonic work for 16 voices, takes us on a harmonic cloud with its mystical atmosphere popularized in the film 2001 A Space Odyssey. Another a cappella choral work takes us on an exploration of water and its various states: in Miniwanka, R Murray Schafer captures the essence of this element and restores its successive transformations. Composer Daphné Hejebri then explores the energy circulating in a colorful, kaleidoscopic space. Finally, two young local creators complete the program: Thierry Tidrow plays with the emotions hidden behind each musical chord, while Sophie Dupuis carries us away in her marine soundscapes.
