Praised by The New York Times for his “genuine originality,” Rufus Wainwright has established himself as one of the great male vocalists and songwriters of his generation. Raised in Montreal, the singer-songwriter is part of Canada’s musical McGarrigle-Wainwright aristocracy, and is a multiple JUNO Award winner and GRAMMY® nominee. He has collaborated with the likes of Elton John, David Byrne, Boy George, and Joni Mitchell, all the while nimbly blurring the lines between pop, folk, camp, and opera, with a journey into the sonnets of Shakespeare thrown in for good measure.
In this extraordinary performance for Canada Scene, Rufus is joined by the National Arts Centre Orchestra for an evening of his best and most provocative music in an evening that will astonish and delight and – as always – leave us wanting much more.
