One of the most famous seducer is back in town! Don Giovanni, Mozart’s celebrated masterpiece, will be presented for 4 nights only from May 14 to 21, 2022, at the Grand Théâtre de Québec. New this year: the performance on Saturday, May 21st will take place in the afternoon. Seduction, conspiracies, intrigues, plot twists… this modern-day Don Juan remains as fascinating as ever. With an exceptional cast featuring internationally renowned Québec singers such as Philippe Sly in the title role, Julie Boulianne and Florie Valiquette, with stage direction by Bertrand Alain, the Opéra de Québec invites you to a unforgettable evening. True to its mission of showcasing Quebec artists and promoting local talents, the sets and costumes will be entirely designed in Québec.

A work at once comic and tragic in which comical and supernatural elements mingle, the narrative framework features complex characters with very human feelings: jealousy, love, hate, vengeance, sadness, joy… the protagonists experience a wide range of emotions! The plot begins tragically: Donna Anna has just been assaulted by Don Giovanni, an emancipated and shameless character. Her cries alert the young woman’s father, the Commendatore, who challenges Don Giovanni to a duel. However, he dies in the fight, and we soon learn that this is far from the time a seduction has gone wrong: Donna Elvira, who promptly appears on stage, resents Don Giovanni for having betrayed her in the past. Leporello, Don Giovanni’s servant, tries to appease her by displaying the register in which he dutifully records all of his master’s conquests. As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that Don Giovanni will never give up his extravagant lifestyle: even faced with a Commendatore back from the dead and threatening him with eternal damnation, he remains true to his beliefs.
