Cette œuvre est une rare collaboration entre une danseuse musulmane et un chorégraphe juif. La pièce est une forme de protestation, une performance initialement mise en scène dans l’ouest de la ville où ils sont nés et ont grandi, Jérusalem. Elad et Rand cherchent à révéler divers aspects de la culture arabe. Elle dépose un Walkman, un appareil photo Polaroid et un téléphone cellulaire sur scène, converse avec sa mère en direct, écoute une chanson d’amour algérienne. Elle porte un costume dont les différentes couches évoquent les couleurs du drapeau de la Palestine. Son masbacha (chapelet arabe) inspire des mouvements qui repoussent les limites de la physicalité.

This dance is a rare collaboration between a Muslim dancer and a Jewish choreographer. The work is a sort of protest, a performance originally staged in the Western part of the city where they were both born and raised, Jerusalem. Rand and Elad seek to reveal various aspects of Arab culture. She places a Walkman, a Polaroid camera and a mobile phone onstage, converses live with her mother, listens to an Algerian love song. She wears a layered costume revealing the colours of the Palestinian flag. Her masbacha (Arabic rosary) inspire movements that push the limits of physicality.

La Chute
Des œuvres d’art furent détruites, le chant des femmes et la musique défendus, la danse interdite. Nasim met en lumière l’histoire tragique du peuple iranien, brutalisé par les événements violents de son histoire contemporaine. Elle lutte pour se lever, résistant aux forces hostiles. L’éclairage fragmente son corps telles les branches d’un arbre, une métaphore dramatique pour les efforts des musiciens d’autrefois qui se sont vus empêchés de créer une musique nationale visant à unir les différents groupes ethniques. Cette chorégraphie néo-expressionniste rend hommage à ces artistes et à la ténacité des Iraniens.

Works of art were destroyed, music and women’s singing forbidden, dancing banned. Nasim sheds light on the tragic story of the Iranian people, who were brutalized by violent events in recent history. She struggles to stand, resisting hostile forces. The lighting fragments her body into tree branches, a dramatic metaphor for the previous efforts of musicians suddenly unable to create a national music meant to unite the various ethnic groups. This neo-expressionist choreography gives voice to these artists and to the resilient men and women of Iran.
