Musical gesture and digital art are at the heart of this evening at Mcgill University’s Music Multimedia Room (MMR) focusing on the up-and-coming Montréal musicians from Ensemble Éclat. This concert is also an opportunity to discover the Karlax, a new musical instrument with infinite possibilities devoted to the digital arts.
In the two works by Philippe Leroux, the musicians align their hand-drawn gestures in the air with the sound materials. Benjamin Lavastre’s work for an ensemble of seven instrumentalists and three Karlaxs introduces us to a digital musical instrument that plays electronic parts by moving in space. Also on the programme are works by Applebaum and Naón, linked by interludes by Alcina Tarrés inspired by Tanguely’s kinetic sculptures. An ideal evening to take the pulse of technological innovation in the field of mixed music and the use of digital tools.
