Throughout his reign, Louis XIV encouraged the finest musicians in the kingdom to compose motets of various proportions, both festive and more meditative, for his Chapel, to accompany both daily liturgies and special ceremonies. During this concert, you will have an opportunity to hear a rare and impressive instrument: the serpent. This bass version of the cornett is bent into a curvy shape, allowing the musician to easily block the finger holes. It was used in church choirs until early in the 20th century. In collaboration with Arion Orchestre baroque
