Ironwood Quartet performs two Beethoven String Quartets: Op. 18, No. 6 in B flat major, and Op. 95 and F minor (Serioso) as part of the NAC’s Beethoven Festival. Taking place at the Glass Thorsteinson Staircase in the NAC lobby, the stunning floor-to-ceiling windows offer gorgeous views of Parliament Hill and the Château Laurier.

THE IRONWOOD QUARTET is made up of four dynamic and passionate Canadian musicians: Jessica Linnebach and Carissa Klopoushak (violins), Julia MacLaine (cello), and David Marks (viola), a quartet of curious musicians who spend most (but not all) of their musical time playing with Canada’s National Arts Centre Orchestra. They first performed together in the inaugural NAC’s WolfGANG Sessions at the Mercury Lounge (a series devoted to contemporary chamber music) and immediately realized their musical connection with one another and their passion for the tremendous and extensive repertoire for string quartet. Since their debut in 2014, Ironwood has achieved critical acclaim for their “take no prisoners” approach to performances. This past year, Ironwood has performed in Ottawa for the NAC’s Music for a Sunday Afternoon series, at the Steinway Gallery, at the Ritornello Chamber Music Festival in Saskatoon, and at the Classical Unbound Festival in Prince Edward County. They have collaborated with pianists Jon Kimura Parker and Inon Barnatan. The coming season features a residency at Avaloch Music Farm Institute, performances of three Beethoven String Quartets for the NACO’s Beethoven Festival, as well as a recital at Pontiac Echanté Series.
