Hillsburn’s recently released second album, The Wilder Beyond is a departure from the folk-rooted sound of their ECMA award-winning record, “In The Battle Years” debut.
The group has soaring three-part harmonies, densely-layered arrangements on their latest album signaling a move in the direction of indie rock.
Paul Aarntzen is the songwriter / engineer in the band and other members include; multi-instrumentalist Jackson Fairfax-Perry on bass, keys, saxophone and vocals, Rosanna Burrill on violin and vocals and brother Clayton on vocals and guitar. The newest member Clare Macdonald is on drums. It is plain that, although Aarntzen sparks the process, Hillsburn is a deeply collaborative affair.
