The Stabat Mater is a hymn to Mary, which portrays her suffering at the foot of the cross during the crucifixion of her son, Jesus Christ. The text has been set to music by numerous composers in both elaborate and intimate settings. The versions penned by Giovanni Felice Sances and Alessandro Scarlatti, while very different, are both eloquent in the depth of feeling they achieve. With Magali Simard-Galdès and Florence Bourget.
