In February, we present a profoundly moving production of Bluebeard’s Castle, where love takes centre stage. Originating from the Theatre of Sound in London, UK, this contemporary production tells a love story shadowed by dementia. Each door Judith opens is a step into her past, exploring her memories and identity. Directed by Daisy Evans, with a new libretto by Evans, and arrangement by Stephen Higgins, this English-sung opera offers a powerful narrative about the complexities of the human mind, and heart, under the baton of Simon Rivard.
This Bluebeard‘s Castle is a love story.
In this reimagined performance, originated by the Theatre of Sound in London, UK, Judith and Bluebeard are in love. Judith has dementia that is progressing. As they open the chest (open the doors), Judith unlocks memories, including women throughout the piece, which are, in fact, memories of her past self.
