Franco-Algerian saxophonist Illyes Ferfera leads his vibrant quartet in a bold and uplifting exploration of global jazz. Drawing from his North African roots, Ferfera blends the rhythmic drive of Algerian Diwane and Moroccan Gnawa with the spontaneity of American jazz, the pulse of Latin grooves, and the nuance of French musical traditions. The result is a richly layered sound that honours cultural roots while pushing creative boundaries. Their music is a celebration of movement and connection, alive with rhythm, improvisation, and cross-cultural resonance. They perform original compositions from their latest album “Tawazun,” which means “balance” in Arabic. This is a free concert, open to all with advance registration. Co-presented with Alliance Française Halifax and the Halifax Public Libraries.
