Canadian cellist Bryan Cheng, our 2025/26 Musician-in-Residence, and German cellist Leonard Disselhorst bring their exciting “Global Grooves” program to Halifax to open our 37th season. This performance blends jazz, tango, folk, and classical genres, showcasing the cello’s remarkable range and this duo’s chemistry. Their program highlights the rhythmic vitality of Béla Bartók, the playful energy of Bobby McFerrin, and the innovative jazz language of Herbie Hancock. Listeners will hear echoes of Astor Piazzolla’s tango revolution, the rich swing of Duke Ellington, and the adventurous harmonies of Armenian musician Tigran Hamasyan alongside music by Academy Award winner Howard Shore. They also draw on the inventive spirit of Milena Dolinova and Krystof Maratka, while Disselhorst contributes three new original works.
CelloFellos duo brilliantly fuses tradition with innovation in this captivating celebration of worldwide rhythms. Presented with the generous support of Musician-in-Residence Presenting Partner – Lang Optometry and Eyewear. Season Sponsor: Nice Moves / Red Door Realty.
