As luminous as she is virtuosic, French-Armenian violinist Chouchane Siranossian, a mountaineering enthusiast, will lead us towards summits of delight as she presents two contrasting symphonic works and a rarity in the concerto repertoire for violin. From a 9-year-old Mozart, we offer a symphony, a foretaste of his genius, written during the Dutch leg of his Grand Tour of Europe with his father and sister. From his elder friend Haydn, we present the astonishing “Farewell Symphony,” written by an artist at the peak of his powers from which he would never descend, with its unsubtle message to his employer, Prince Esterházy, about a long overdue leave of absence for the musicians of his orchestra. Between these two works, a brilliant violin concerto provides an opportunity to discover the German violinist and composer Andreas Romberg, an admirer of both Mozart and Haydn, and an erstwhile colleague of Beethoven.
