In a virtual press conference through Ixion Communication on Wednesday, Dec, 7, Montreal’s ProMusica launched their 2023 season; Irina Krasnyanskaya, artistic director, Suzanne Matte, general manager and pianist Serhiy Salov presented a program dedicated to the piano.
“The 2023 concerts will be presented exclusively in halls,” said Matte. “On the other hand, our objective is to be able to produce our concerts in hybrid formats, in theaters and on the web.”
On the morning that the Bank of Canada announced a seventh increase of the prime rate of 50 basis points to 4.25%, ProMusica, for its part, manages to face these economic cascades without increasing the cost of its tickets, which remain comparable to the prices of 2022.
In 2023, the classical music concert presenter will offer 3 series from January 15 to August 6, 2023 in three venues: a total of 12 concerts, 29 artists who will all revolve around a theme: The Grand Piano.
In Montreal:
Four concerts at the Pierre Mercure Hall of the Centre Pierre-Péladeau featuring Serhiy Salov accompanied by the ProMusica quartet, Marc-André Hamelin; the four melodines at Claude Léveillé Hall (Place des Arts) including Jeanne Amièle, and Nicolas Ellis (conductor of the Agora Orchestra) and Philippe Prud’Homme,
On the road:
For a breath of fresh air and a first for the company, four concerts will be presented at the Center Culturel St-John in Bromont with two winners of the Prix d’Europe, promising representatives of the next generation, Wilhelm Magner, viola and Felix Hong, piano, and the Canadian Guitar Quartet, a quartet that includes guitarists Steve Cowan, Jérôme Ducharme, Christ Habib and Louis Trépanier.
Press Release
Montreal, December 7th, 2022 – Pro Musica is proud to unveil the programs of its new season, which highlights the piano, an essential instrument celebrated throughout the world. Under the artistic direction of Irina Krasnyanskaya, the Cartes Blanches series presents great musicians who have distinguished themselves internationally, invited for the occasion to revisit places and periods in the history of music. In all, eight (8) concerts, in solo, duo or quintet, divided into the musical series Cartes Blanches and Mélodînes, for our greatest pleasure.
“The piano is a universal instrument, always capable of charming and conquering us again, with its unlimited capacities and its almost infinite repertoire. And for me… it’s my instrument, the one I chose, that I’ve always loved!” Irina Krasnyanskaya.
Under the theme Grand piano, Pro Musica wishes, once again, to offer a privileged space of encounter between the artist and the public. Grand piano transports you this season in space and time, for 4 concerts at the Pierre-Mercure Hall of the Pierre-Péladeau Center, in the company of 9 musicians who will perform in solo, duo and quintet. Music lovers will be able to appreciate the talent of musicians Sergei Babayan, Serhiy Salov with the Pro Musica String Quartet composed of Marie Bégin, Abby Walsh, Cynthia Blanchon and Noémie Raymond-Friset, Marc-André Hamelin as well as Duo Bax & Chung. The greatest masterpieces of music will be presented and it will be an opportunity to make great discoveries from a lesser known piano repertoire.
The Mélodînes series will also be a tribute to the great piano: chamber music, with Laurianne Houde and Philippe Gagné (winners of the Canadian Music Competition), solo recitals, with Felix Hong and Jeanne Amièle (winners of the Prix d’Europe), and a four-handed duet, with Nicolas Ellis (conductor, founder of the Orchestre de l’Agora) and Philippe Prud’homme (pianist and composer). This promises to be a very varied and exciting season!
As an organization on the lookout for innovative proposals, Pro Musica initiates this year On the Road, a new musical series presenting 4 concerts in collaboration with the City of Bromont. The musical summer will be accompanied by a wide range of collectives in a nice array of repertoires: Ensemble Kleztory (klezmer music), Trio Con Moto (Valérie Milot, Jocelyne Roy, Elvira Misbakhova), duo Wilhelm Magner and Felix Hong (winners of the Prix d’Europe), as well as the Canadian Guitar Quartet.
