Claire McLeish is a doctoral student in the Musicology program at McGill University. Her research examines digital sampling and musical intertextuality, with a specific focus on golden age hip hop and mashups; her other interests include opera and film music. Claire holds a B.A. in Popular Music Studies, a Bachelor of Music in Musicology, and an M.A. in Popular Music and Culture from the University of Western Ontario. Her master’s thesis is titled “‘The Future is Medieval’: Orality and Musical Borrowing in the Middle Ages and Online Remix Culture.” She is currently the holder of a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada’s Joseph-Armand Bombardier Graduate Scholarship.
