Diplomé de l’Université McGill, Philippe Sly est lauréat de plusieurs prix importants dont celui du Concours musical international de Montréal, du Concours des auditions nationales du Metropolitan Opera et du prix jeune soliste des Radios francophones publiques. Il est récipiendaire de la bourse d’opéra Brian Law et de celle de la Fondation Jacqueline Desmarais pour les jeunes chanteurs d’opéra canadien. Après des débuts au Canadian Opera Company de Toronto et au Festival de Salzbourg, Philippe Sly s’est produit à l’Opéra de San Francisco, puis avec le Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, sous la direction de Gustavo Dudamel, dans le rôle très remarqué de Guglielmo (Cosi fan tutte). Poursuivant une carrière internationale, Philippe Sly s’est fait entendre à l’Opéra National de Paris, à l’Opéra de Lyon, au Festival de Glyndebourne, au Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, dans le rôle-titre de Don Giovanni, ainsi qu’en Malaisie avec l’Orchestre philharmonique de Kuala Lumpur. Sa discographie comprend un enregistrement de l’Aiglon avec l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, deux albums en solo et un disque de cantates de Rameau avec Hélène Guilmette.

Schubert: Winterreise

Beautiful, blooming tone and magnetic stage presence is how the San Francisco Chronicle described Canadian bass-baritone Philippe Sly. Sly was first-prize winner at the prestigious Montreal International Musical Competition in 2012 and a grand prize winner at the 2011 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He received his Bachelor of Music degree in voice performance from McGill University, where he participated in performances of La Bohème (Marcello), The Rape of Lucretia (Collatinus) and The Rake’s Progress (Nick Shadow). In recent seasons Sly has appeared at the Paris Opera, the Hamburg Opera, l’Opéra de Lyon, the Aix-en-Provence Festival, Glyndebourne, the Philadelphia Orchestra with Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Montreal Symphony with Kent Nagano. Sly has recorded two solo albums on the Analekta label: In Dreams with renowned Montreal pianist Michael McMahon (2012) and Schubert Sessions with American guitarist John Charles Britton (2016).
