Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel, arguably the two greatest Baroque composers, had a fascinating destiny: born 30 km apart, 5 weeks apart, yet they never met. One (Bach) had 21 children with two women, the other (Handel) had no known relationships and no children. One (Bach) was a modest craftsman who never traveled; the other (Handel) toured Europe and had a tremendous career. One was the most complex composer of his time, the other the master of simplicity. But they knew each other’s music and admired each other. And their arias and sonatas are beyond magnificent. Serving them is our great mezzo-soprano Renée Lapointe.
