The Orchestre national de jazz de Montréal (ONJ) continues its mission to push back the frontiers of contemporary jazz by commissioning Marianne Trudel, its Associate Artistic Director, virtuoso pianist, visionary composer and inspired conductor, to create a second original orchestral work that promises to ignite minds and hearts. As a supplement to the program, the ONJ will perform excerpts from the first work commissioned from Marianne Trudel in 2015, Dans la Forêt de ma Mémoire (In the Forest of My Memory). This exclusive commission, which will have its world premiere on March 12, 2026 at Place des Arts’ Cinquième Salle, is already shaping up to be a major event on the Quebec and international music scenes. Marianne Trudel, whose audacious writing and acute sense of orchestration have captivated audiences time and again, will once again plunge into her universe, rich in emotion and sonic exploration. A pianist with a delicate yet powerful touch, a composer with spellbinding harmonies and a conductor as precise as she is passionate, Marianne Trudel embodies the very essence of modern jazz: a blend of freedom, rigor and pure emotion. Her unique approach, combining improvisation, complex structures and haunting melodies, makes her one of the most original voices of her generation.
