As we approach the final stage of the international Chopin Competition, Canadian Kevin Chen is a competitor to follow.
At only 20 years old, Chen is one of the competition’s youngest participants. He is a celebrated pianist throughout Canada and internationally, having won the Canadian Music Competition (CMC), the Franz Liszt Competition, the 2022 Geneva Competition and, recently, the 2023 Arthur Rubinstein Piano Master Competition.
Though Chen now resides in Hanover, Germany while he pursues his studies at Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover, he is a native of Alberta and has performed with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and the NAC Orchestra.
He is scheduled to open day 3 of the finals, held on Monday, October 20 in Warsaw, with a performance of Chopin’s Piano Concerto in E Minor, Op. 11.
