Three things to know:
The world-renowned Canadian violinist returns to Southam Hall for a solo recital celebrating his 50th birthday.
Hailed as “a violinist in a class of his own” (The Times), Ehnes is the most decorated classical musician in Juno Award history, with 12 awards.
Ehnes and pianist Andrew Armstrong are longtime collaborators who have performed together across North America, Europe, and Australia.
For more than three decades, Canadian violinist James Ehnes has delivered performances of steely virtuosity, lush lyricism, and profound emotion that have won the hearts of music lovers across the globe. And now, he returns home to Canada and the National Arts Centre to celebrate his 50th birthday with a solo recital of his favourite works.
Together with pianist Andrew Armstrong, Ehnes will perform music by Maurice Ravel, Christian Sinding, Canadian composer Carmen Braden, and the final sonata of Johannes Brahms—a wild and stormy work of intense passion and supreme tenderness. (And of course, you can expect a few dazzling surprises to be announced from the stage!)
