In December 2019, our artist-in-residence, Émilie Monnet, offers 13 words: a lexicon of Aboriginal words that make sense, inspired by Olivier Choinière’s “Abécédaire des mots en sens de sens”. Presentation in French.

Indigenous languages reflect a worldview specific to each of the cultures from which they originate. They are often composed of concept words, whose meaning is only revealed in translation by long explanations. On the occasion of the International Year of Indigenous Languages proclaimed by UNESCO, CTD’A and Jamais Lu join forces with Émilie Monnet to create this exceptional event. During these two evenings of performative speeches, thirteen Aboriginal artists seize these words to give them a more personal definition while embracing their multiple layers of meaning.
