  • German conductor Christian Thielemann has been appointed Carl Maria von Weber Visiting Professor of Conducting at the Royal Academy of Music. He will start as of January 2017.

  • Cellist Yo-Yo Ma will launch Youth Music Culture Guangdong (YMCG), an annual two-week training program for young musicians in Guangzhou, China. The program will be launched on January 7, 2017 and Ma will serve as its artistic director. Musician must be aged between 18 and 35 and come from China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Presented by the Department of Culture of Guangdong Province and organized by the Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and Xinghai Concert Hall, the program will include concerts, masterclasses, workshops and cultural exchange events.

  • The 2017 Michael Hill International Violin Competition announced the 16 young musicians who are part of the quarter-finals, which will take place in New Zealand in June 2017. The musicians aged between 18 and 28 were selected from 140 applicants from 32 countries.
