Vancouver, Canada (June 26, 2019) — The VSO School of Music is pleased to announce the first annual Girls’ Jazz Day on Thursday, June 28 in Pyatt Hall from 9:30AM to 3:00PM.

Due to the startling fact that women only make up five percent of the pop and jazz industry, Girls’ Jazz Day was launched by the VSO SoM to actively try and change this by providing workshops, musical coaching and mentorship to young women musicians.

“I’m thrilled that young musicians from all over British Columbia will be joining us for an empowering day of mentorship and music making with a stellar faculty and teaching assistant team,” said Jodi Proznick, Artistic Director of Girls’ Jazz Day.

Girls’ Jazz Day is open to high school students interested in learning jazz who identify as women or gender non-binary. The day will include jam sessions, workshops, performances and more. It  is a testament to the VSO’s commitment to equity and is a part of the VSO’s Women’s Voices Initiative
