Vancouver Opera postpones its 60th anniversary season

Vancouver, July 3rd 2020 – Hello everyone, we hope that you and your families are keeping well during these times.

Like many organizations, Vancouver Opera has been struggling with the challenges presented by COVID-19. Although the closure of venues, social distancing measures, and restrictions on gatherings of more than 50 are in place for the foreseeable future, Vancouver Opera remains committed to our mission: to create extraordinary experiences that engage, inspire and entertain our audiences through voice, music, and theatre.

However, it is now clear that we will be unable to present our 2020–2021 season on the stage of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre as originally planned. Our much-anticipated 60th anniversary season that includes CarmenCosì fan Tutte, and Falstaff will be postponed to the 2021–2022 season.

Along with change comes opportunity. This is an opportunity to explore inventive ways to connect with audiences while supporting our artists and musicians. We are re-envisioning a season with a spotlight on Canadian artists, intimate gatherings, digital performances, and community partnerships. We will continue our engagement work with schools, students, and the broader community, and are excited to welcome a new group of resident artists to our Yulanda M. Faris Young Artists Program later this year. We look forward to sharing details with you as plans are confirmed.
