TSM Adds Xenia Concert for Children on the Autism Spectrum to 2019 Festival Programming

TORONTO – New this year, Toronto Summer Music expands its festival programming with a one-hour concert specially designed for families with children on the autism spectrum and children with accessibility issues. On Sunday, July 28 at 11 AM, the Xenia Concerts and TSM: Beyond Borders with Ensemble Made in Canada event will take place at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts (1 Front Street East).  The concert highlights the many cross-cultural influences that have shaped classical music into what it is today. Since 2017, Toronto Summer Music has offered a free Kids Concerts series at its annual festival, which has played to packed houses of enthusiastic children and their families.  The 2019 Toronto Summer Music Festival features three fun and engaging one-hour concerts specially designed to introduce children, ages 5-12, to classical music. Hosted by Joanna Kellam, the free concerts are held on Thursday mornings during the festival – July 18, 25 and August 1 – at 11 a.m. in Walter Hall at the University of Toronto, 80 Queen’s Park, next to Museum Subway Station.  The concerts are ticketed events and require advance booking.  To reserve tickets to the Kids Concerts or for more information call 416-408-0208 or visit www.torontosummermusic.com.

Ensemble Made in Canada

Ensemble Made in Canada highlights the many cross-cultural influences that have shaped classical music into what it is today with a program that features music by Mozart, Fauré, and Frank Bridge.

Art of Time Ensemble’s Artistic Director, pianist Andrew Burashko, will perform L’Histoire de Babar, le petit éléphant by Francis Poulenc, an iconic piece of music that seeds a love of classical music in young audiences by playfully connecting the piano score with the beloved children’s story by the same name.
