Calgary, AB, April 3, 2018—This summer, Honens brings the world’s finest emerging pianists to Calgary for an internationally renowned piano competition and ten days of extraordinary music-making. Honens searches for The Complete Artist—a 21st century pianist for 21st century audiences. The Honens International Piano Competition awards the largest prize of its kind—$100,000 CAD and an Artist Development Program valued at a half-million dollars.
Highlights include:
- Ten semifinalist solo and collaborative performances,
- The world premiere of the newly commissioned arrangement of The Hockey Sweater,
- A recital by 2018 Mentor-in-Residence Garrick Ohlsson,
- A collaborative performance by Luca Buratto and 2017 Rubinstein Competition winner Szymon Nehring with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra,
- A late-night jam session at Bison Noir with Honens’ Artistic Director Jon Kimura Parker, competitors, jurors, and other guest artists, and
- Two nights of Finals with chamber and orchestral performances, building to the announcement of the 2018 Honens Prize Laureate.
