Montreal, September 14, 2018 – Jan-Fryderyk Pleszczynski, Chair of the Conseil des arts de Montréal, is delighted to announce the appointment of four new Board members. “I am very pleased to welcome Nadia Drouin, Nadine Gomez, Katia Grubisic and Charles Milliard to our team. They have very different profiles and a wide variety of skill sets, and they are all deeply committed to the Montreal artistic community. I am confident that their experience and different perspectives will provide invaluable input for the Board’s discussions as it implements its 2018-2020 strategic plan.”

He is also pleased to announce that Hugues Sweeney has been confirmed in the position of Second Vice President, replacing Philippe Baylaucq, and that Francis Guimond’s term will be renewed for the next three years.

Here is further information on the Conseil’s new Board members:

Nadia Drouin has worked in the cultural arena for 20 years. An actor by training, Nadia Drouin was Co-director of Théâtre Pluriel and an Artistic Associate at Théâtre ESPACE GO before discovering the world of contemporary circus and street arts in Quebec. After joining TOHU as Professional Services Coordinator, she went on to serve as the organization’s Head of Circus Arts Programming for eight years. Since last March, Drouin has held the post of Director of Biennale CINARS, an international performing arts conference.

Nadine Gomez has earned a reputation in Quebec cinema as a filmmaker, the Director of Distribution at Diffusion Multi-Monde and a member of several boards (Doc Québec, Funambules médias). She made the documentaries Le Horse Palace and Métro, in 2012 and 2015 respectively, with support from the “Regards sur Montréal” bursary program (CAM, NFB, SODEC), of which she was the first recipient. Gomez is currently putting the finishing touches on her second feature film, Exarchia, le chant des oiseaux. As an active player in the milieu, she hopes to foster stronger ties within Montreal’s cultural community.

A writer, editor and translator, Katia Grubisic was the recipient of the Gerald Lampert Memorial Award for poetry and a finalist for the Governor General’s Award in literary translation. She is also known for her work in book publishing and distribution, and she maintains strong ties with Montreal’s English- and French-language creators.

Charles Milliard is a pharmacist and Vice President, Health with National Public Relations agency in Montreal. In addition to his expertise in the pharmaceutical and communications industries, he has also been actively involved in the cultural field for over 10 years. Milliard holds an MBA and is currently President of the Board of Directors of Festival TransAmériques (FTA) as well as a director of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. Recently, he has also begun working with the Armand-Frappier Foundation. His love of the stage makes him a natural for his new role on the Board. 

The Conseil des arts de Montréal wishes to thank the following outgoing Board members for their contribution: Liza Frulla, Hélène Messier, Manon Blanchette, Philippe Baylaucq and Nassib El Husseini. Their work in recent years has been invaluable to the Board. Most Board members hail from the arts, education, business and municipal sectors. They are all volunteers and live on the Island of Montreal. They are appointed for a three-year term, renewable once.
