Toronto (Canada), July 28, 2015 … Paris-based violinist Mira Glodeanu makes her Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra debut as guest director and soloist for Vivaldi’s L’estro armonico, January 20 to 24, 2016 at Trinity-St. Paul’s Centre, Jeanne Lamon Hall. Music by other baroque composers will be included on the programme in addition to Vivaldi’s work. Individual tickets for Tafelmusik’s 2015/16 season will be on sale starting August 4.
Vivaldi’s L’estro armonico took 18th-century Europe by storm, earning the composer instant fame and forever changing how concertos were written. These works of astonishing creativity and energy are ideally suited to the exceptional soloists of Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. Classics Today described Tafelmusik’s “scintillating, dynamic, articulate and vibrant” 2007 recording of L’estro armonico as being “nothing short of phenomenal.”
Having graduated from the Academy of Music in Bucharest with the highest distinction, violinist Mira Glodeanu soon developed a particular interest in early music. Following initial influential musical encounters with such artists as Jordi Savall, Manfredo Kraemer, and William Christie, she eventually came to Brussels to further her studies under Sigiswald Kuijken. She has performed as soloist and concertmaster around the world with baroque ensembles such as Collegium Vocale (Belgium), les Agrémens (Belgium), and Al Ayre Espagnol (Spain), among others. In 2008, with Vincent Dumestre she formed the orchestra of Le Poème Harmonique, where she holds the position of concertmaster. As the current Artistic Director of Ensemble Philidor, Mira Glodeanu has brought the ensemble to a new level with her unique musical qualities and innovative programmes.
A passionate and highly experienced chamber musician, Glodeanu has collaborated with such artists as Christina Pluhar (l’Arpeggiata), Marcel Ponseele (Il Gardellino), and Jean Tubéry (La Fenice). Together with harpsichordist Frédérick Haas she founded the ensemble Ausonia in 1998, and together they made the world premiere recording of Violin Sonatas by F. Francoeur. With Ausonia, Glodeanu has recorded the complete Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord by J. S. Bach on the Ambronay label, as well as a recital recording of German and Austrian baroque repertoire for solo violin, and French repertoire including the music Rameau.
A renowned teacher, Mira Glodeanu is professor of baroque violin at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and is a guest professor at the University of Salamanca, Spain.
